My name is Katlyn. I am a Registered Nurse of 5+ years working in WV. I have 4 years of experience in Labor and Delivery working full time with families and their newborns. In 2022 I found my calling working with breastfeeding mothers obtaining my CLC from the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice. Ever since, I have looked for ways to expand breastfeeding and lactation education in my community. I began a Lactation support group in my area and enjoyed hosting group activities. Now, I am thrilled to provide my lactation services to this well-deserved community of women and infants. I am a mother who struggled on my own personal breastfeeding journey. I never saw a lactation counselor and had no assistance or knowledge of breastfeeding. It led to me giving up on my journey one month in and it devastated me. I want to give every mother the power of knowledge that I didn't have. Everyone deserves to feel empowered in their feeding journey. Welcome to The Nurture Nook- my vision come to life. Personalized Lactation Counseling
At The Nurture Nook, we understand that every breastfeeding journey is unique and special. Our certified lactation counselor offers personalized one-on-one sessions to help you achieve your breastfeeding goals. Katlyn has a variety of options for visits tailored to your needs.

Our services are private pay only. I do not accept insurance at this time but this could be a possibility in the future!
I am qualified to service anyone in the US virtually! For home visits/hospital visits I typically service North Central WV. Reach out to Katlyn if you have a question about service area or location.
The Certified Lactation Counselor® (CLC) certification is the premier National Certification in Lactation Management in the United States. The Lactation Counselor Training Course (LCTC) and CLC exam certification holders have demonstrated competence in the lactation skills, knowledge, and attitudes that are essential to helping women and have agreed to comply with The Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice Code of Ethics.
CLC certification means that a person has received training and competency verification in breastfeeding and human lactation support, including assessing the latching (how baby is fastened to the breast) and feeding process, providing corrective interventions, counseling mothers, understanding and applying knowledge of milk production including in special circumstances and other commonly encountered situations.
Absolutely not! I counsel parents on proper formula preparation as well as safe milk storage. I offer counseling for those having mixed feedings and are transitioning completely to formula. Breastfeeding is not all or nothing. My approach is very client-centered and is based on the individual goals of the family.
All of our visits are HIPAA compliant through MilkNotes charting system. All of these services will be available for each client:
- Parent access to Care Plan
- Communicate with Katlyn while maintaining HIPAA compliance
- Electronic fax of Care Plan and Report to infant's pediatrician, OBGYN, or any other provider
- App available to view records
During a lactation counseling session both baby and nursing parent are assessed. Katlyn will do an intake to learn more about health history and current practices of both clients and all current issues/concerns. The baby is weighed prior to and after a feeding during home visits. Katlyn will observe and assess the feeding session. The client is given advice and written instructions to address concerns as well as any necessary follow up with us or other professionals that could be needed.
